Trail of The Kings: Walk the Path of Kings, Live Your Legend

Lake Toba is poised to carve a new chapter in the global sport tourism landscape.

From October 17–19, 2025, the world’s largest volcanic caldera will play host to Trail of the Kings (ToTK) Lake Toba by UTMB® 2025—a prestigious international trail running event, and the first-ever UTMB® World Series race held in Indonesia. This milestone marks a bold leap for Southeast Asia, placing Danau Toba firmly on the world map of endurance sports.

The event builds upon a bold initiative pioneered by the Lake Toba Authority (BPODT) through

the successful ToTK Zero Edition in 2024. The positive assessment by UTMB® affirmed

the region’s readiness to host a world-class event, leading to Lake Toba’s official appointment

as host for the UTMB® World Series 2025–2027. This is more than a sporting event,

it is a declaration that the destination has met global standards of excellence, sustainability,

and authenticity grounded in local values.

The name “Trail of The Kings” is not a mere branding choice, it holds deep historical  

and cultural resonance. The Bataknese people, native to the Lake Toba region, are known

in their rich oral tradition as trailblazing leaders, kings and visionaries who forged communities

by carving paths through dense forests and rugged highlands. By embracing this name,

BPODT pays homage to the ancestral legacy of the Bataknese as pioneers of both land and spirit.

Trail of The Kings is a continuation of that legacy. Set upon the hallowed ground of a supervolcanic eruption site, runners will embark on a journey that transcends competition, it is a pilgrimage

of the soul. The 100K category, the longest and most demanding, will lead athletes across vast valleys, sacred hills, ancient forests, and breathtaking vistas. Every step echoes the legends that still whisper through the trees and mist. It’s an experience that binds body to earth, breath to myth.

More than just showcasing beauty, this event becomes a meeting point between heritage

and endurance, between myth and modern spirit. Here, we will crown the first champions,

not just as the fastest runners, but as those who walk the ancient path of kings and
