Environmental pollution is one of the problems that must be resolved immediately in a sustainable tourism program. For this reason, it requires the involvement of all parties to be handled together.

This is one of the sticking out in the International Seminar on Sustainable Tourism and Water Quality of Lake Toba, moderated by the Regional Secretary of the Province of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) R Sabrina in the Hall of Del Institute of Technology (IT) Campus, Laguboti Tobasa (Toba), Thursday (12) / 3/2020).

This seminar is in order to welcome the visit of the King and Queen of the Netherlands who visited a number of places in North Sumatra, especially the Lake Toba region, including the IT Del campus.

The international seminar titled “Sustainable Tourism and Water Quality in Lake Toba” invites all stakeholders to participate in making Lake Toba and the surrounding area a source of community life from all aspects and potentials.

North Sumatra Provincial Secretary, Sabrina said, the main problem that also surfaced in the discussion was a sustainable tourism program focused on lake water quality.

Because various sources of pollution such as domestic waste, fisheries and agriculture have not been addressed thoroughly as well as integrated.

“There are many sources of pollution that need to be considered and addressed. So it’s not from just one sector, for example agriculture, the environment, tourism and other sectors. Therefore, it is necessary to involve all sectors to jointly manage this, “he said.

Sabrina also stressed that so far the involvement of the private sector, both community groups, environmental activists to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) has existed for a long time.

His role is indirectly helping the government program. It’s just that the efforts made have not been coordinated optimally.

Deputy Assistant for Utilization of Maritime Science and Technology Kemenko Maritime and Investment Neni Hendiarti said, the involvement of universities in terms of input for the concept of management of tourist areas is needed, including in producing educated generations in the Lake Toba region.

“As we know, Lake in Indonesia is multi-functional. In addition to meeting water needs, also for irrigation, fisheries, power plants and like here for tourism, “explained Neni.

As for the emphasis in terms of the management of the Lake Toba region, Neni emphasizes the involvement as well as the benefits for the community. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the interests of many people, but also do not deny the need to improve the people’s economy.

“Indeed, all places, the situation is that waste is not well managed. We hope that in Lake Toba we can manage it together, especially with regard to plastic waste. How does this waste have economic value by involving the community (in its processing), “he concluded.
